Tractor Driving Experiences
Some people see a tractor and think agriculture. Other people think, I would love a go in that. This website is for the second group.
There are four ways to make it happen: a 30 minute first go, a full hour, the two hour solo experience, or Double Trouble for two people.
No farming background required. You will be introduced to the machine and its controls before the driving begins.
Four Ways to
Make It Happen.
This Is Tractor Driving.
Not a passenger ride. Not a quick photo in the cab. You are there to drive the tractor.
You are introduced to the machine, shown the controls and then take the wheel under instruction. How long you spend driving depends on which of the four experiences you choose.
There may be more levers than seem entirely reasonable. Fortunately, nobody expects you to arrive knowing what they all do.
How Much Tractor?
Thirty minutes, a full hour, two hours solo, or a shared two hour experience for two. Pick the one that sounds most like your idea of a good day.
Finally Have a Go
Your first proper turn at the wheel. Thirty minutes driving a modern tractor, with the introduction and familiarisation around it.
Get Stuck In
A full hour at the controls, with enough time to get used to the tractor’s size and response and properly enjoy the driving.
The Big One
Around two hours driving solo. If you have waited years to do this, there is something rather satisfying about not doing it by halves.
Double Trouble
One shared two hour experience for two participants, because apparently neither of you intends to stand there and watch.
Pick Your Patch of Mud.
The exact experience choice varies by location. Pick the area that works for you and we will show you what is available there.
Give Them the Tractor Thing.
If somebody has been talking about driving a tractor for years, this is a rather satisfying way to stop the conversation being hypothetical.
Choose the experience, buy an open dated voucher valid for 12 months, and let them sort the actual driving day later. You provide the excellent idea. The tractor does the rest.
DRIVING. For the right person, that rather sells itself. Choose a gift voucher →
Useful Things to Know
The practical bits before you decide how much tractor seems appropriate.
Do I actually get to drive the tractor?
Yes. That is very much the point. You start with the welcome, safety briefing and controls familiarisation, then take the wheel yourself and drive under instruction. The exact amount of driving time depends on the experience you choose.
Do I need previous tractor driving experience?
No. These experiences are designed for people who may never have driven a tractor before. You are introduced to the cab and controls before the driving begins, so nobody expects you to arrive fluent in tractor.
How old do I need to be?
The minimum age across the current tractor driving experiences is 13. If you are buying for a younger tractor fan, it is worth keeping that age requirement in mind before choosing the voucher.
What is the difference between the four experiences?
Tractor Explorer gives one person 30 minutes driving for £75. Advanced Tractor Driving gives one person a full 60 minutes for £145. The Big One gives one person around two hours at the controls for £249. Double Trouble is also £249, but is a shared two hour experience for two participants.
Can two people do the experience together?
Yes. Double Trouble is the two person option: one shared two hour tractor driving experience for two participants, with both getting involved at the controls. If only one person wants to drive, choose one of the three solo experiences instead.
Where in the UK can I drive a tractor?
The current destination areas are Beaconsfield, St Ives, Penzance, Buxton, Liverpool and Glasgow. Not every experience runs at every location, which is why each area has its own guide showing exactly what you can book there.
Can I buy tractor driving as a gift?
Absolutely. The vouchers are open dated and valid for 12 months, so you can choose the experience now without having to choose the driving day as well. For the right person, handing them a tractor driving voucher requires surprisingly little explanation.
How long should I allow for the visit?
For the 30 minute experience, allow around an hour overall. The 60 minute experience takes roughly an hour and a half in total. For the two hour solo and two person experiences, allow roughly two and a half hours for the full visit.
Can family or friends come and watch?
The current solo experiences welcome spectators and photographs, which is useful if somebody wants evidence of the occasion. Spectator arrangements for the two person package are less clearly specified, so check the booking information for that option.
What kind of tractor will I drive?
The experiences use a modern agricultural tractor rather than a small vintage machine. The exact make or model should not be treated as guaranteed, but the important part is unchanged: this is a full size working-style tractor and you are there to drive it.
